.TH BLANKRES-APT-HOOK 1 "September 2026" "blankres 0.1.0" "User Commands" .SH NAME blankres-apt-hook \- report failed package installs and upgrades .SH SYNOPSIS .B blankres-apt-hook .RB [ \-\-config .IR PATH ] .RB [ \-\-dpkg-log .IR PATH ] .RB [ \-\-dry-run ] .SH DESCRIPTION Scans .I /var/log/dpkg.log for packages left in a failure state and reports them, so that a maintainer script which exits non-zero is reported the same way a segfault is. .PP Installed as an apt .B Post-Invoke hook and run once after each apt invocation. There is no core dump for a package failure, so this only ever performs stage-one reporting. It exits quietly and successfully whenever reporting is disabled or the server is unreachable: breaking .B apt install in order to report a bug would be a worse failure than losing the report. .SH OPTIONS .TP .BR \-c ", " \-\-config " " \fIPATH\fR Configuration file. Default .IR /etc/blankres/client.json . .TP .BI \-\-dpkg-log " PATH" Log to inspect. Default .IR /var/log/dpkg.log . .TP .B \-\-dry-run Print the events that would be sent, and send nothing. .SH FILES .TP .I /var/lib/blankres/apt-hook.json Timestamp of the newest failure already reported, so a failure is not re-reported on every subsequent apt run. .SH SEE ALSO .BR blankresd (8), .BR apt.conf (5)
